AUWIMUN 2018

The Asian University for Women International Model United Nations (AUWIMUN) 2018, one of the most talked about events of the year, was successfully held from February 21 to 24, 2018. The AUWMUN Club hosted as many as 130 delegates from within and outside Bangladesh on campus. 
The conference had eight committees of 15-17 delegates each and an International Press with 8 reporters. The committees and their agendas were as follows: 
  1. World Food Program: Strengthening and Enforcing Existing Mechanism to Provide Emergency Assistance and Execute Food Operations for Refugees 
  2. United Nations Commission on the Status of Women: Addressing the Effect of Violence on Women’s Health Status and Quality of Life
  3. United Nations Environment Program: Combating Ocean Pollution and Re-looking at Regional Maritime Affairs 
  4. World Trade Organization: Encouraging World Trade Policies and Economy Reflecting on the Surrogate Country Approach in Anti-Dumping Investigation 
  5. International Olympic Committee: Deliberation and Discussion on IOC’s ‘Fight Against Doping’ with Special Emphasis in the Recent Case of Russia
  6. International Atomic Energy Agency: Taking Measures to Strengthen International Cooperation in Ensuring the Proper Maintenance of Nuclear Power Plants and Nuclear Waste Disposal 
  7. United Nations Security Council, Counter-Terrorism Committee: Qatar-Gulf Crisis 
The delegates worked on solving these isues as spokespersons from different countries through debate and diplomacy, all the while not compromising the foreign policies of their respective countries. At the end of the conference, the committees presented their resolutions as a means to address the problems they were tasked with at the conference. 
There were 25 delegates from AUW and among them one was awarded the title of Best Delegate, one Outstanding Delegate, and two Special Mentions while many others received praise through Verbal Mentions from their committee board members. 
The four-day long event also had some fun aspects like the Global Village where delegates shared dances and songs from different countries, the carnival-themed socials, and the pumped-up gala dinner, all of which added to the experience of the delegates.
