Open House 2019 at AUW

On January 19, Asian University for Women successfully launched its annual Open House event to attract prospective students, familiarize them (and their parents) with the facilities, allow them to meet with faculty and to open communication channels between AUW staff and the students and their parents.

To discover more details about this event, The Echo interviewed Mr. Suman Chatterjee, the Director of Marketing and Student Recruitment at AUW. According to Mr. Suman, the objective of the Open House was to help the prospective students as well as their guardians in making an informed decision about their education by spreading more awareness about AUW and its unique liberal arts curriculum. This year’s Open House was quite successful, having 20 percent more walk-ins than last year. The highlights of the event were the lecture sessions, where AUW’s faculty and staff spoke about their respective departments. Apart from that, some current students and alumni shared their experiences as well. The visitors had the opportunity to ask questions to clear out any confusion they might have. Some of the common concerns revolved around AUW’s entrance exam format, student selection procedure, subject choosing, future prospects, fees, and scholarships. Hence, this event covered various aspects of the AUW experience in a structured manner.

Organizing an event always comes with some challenges and this one was no exception. Mr. Suman shared that the major challenges were the security concerns and the space constraint. In the future, he hopes to make use of more space to coordinate such events so that the visitors can move about more freely.

This year’s Open House witnessed many people who came from Dhaka, Sylhet, Rajshahi, and other regions apart from Chittagong. Mr. Suman expressed that this makes AUW want to organize similar events on a smaller scale in areas outside of Chittagong. Also, some of the prospective students described their experience by saying that the Open House is a special opportunity for them to have first-hand experience and see AUW for themselves by interacting with faculty, staff, and the clubs. For those who were not able to attend the Open House, video clips of the sessions will be uploaded to AUW’s social media platforms. Additionally, if people have any queries, they can come to visit the Office of Admissions or contact them via phone or social media.

“I would like to take this opportunity through The Echo to thank all the faculty, staff, alumni and students who helped us immensely in making this event a success,” were Mr. Suman’s words as the interview drew to an end.
