Time to get rid of excuses!
Regita Gurung
The first months of 2018 has come and gone. How many of us, who have promised ourselves a healthy lifestyle, stuck to our new year’s resolution? If you have at least tried and failed, then it’s okay. But if you haven’t even started the journey, then it is time to gear up your spirit!
A healthy lifestyle is all about the choices you make for yourself. These choices include eating habits and daily activities. Popular notions about maintaining a healthy lifestyle often conflate health with becoming skinny by starving, skipping meals, and working out like machines. These ideas are not only unhealthy but also completely wrong. Now I know that we all prefer pizza over salad and pastries over fruits. We even categorize salads as part of an “animal diet” and question its place in a human diet. But we should all know that a salad actually contains nutrients in it required for a human to survive which a burger doesn’t.
So to make things easy for us foodholics, the workout was created. Although workouts are supposed to be fun, people nowadays dread it mainly because they picture bodybuilders all pumped up and drenched in sweat and tears picking up heavy weights.
What one should know about a workout is that it is a physical activity that helps maintain fitness and overall health. Even taking the stairs, playing games, and dancing are forms of physical activity. But AUW being as cute and as small as it is, we all complain about how we don’t have any space to take a walk or grounds to play in right?
So what can you do to achieve your physical health goal in the given circumstances?
- Take the stairs.Yes, we have a small campus and few buildings, but if we take the stairs every time, that counts as some cardio.
- Drink water like your tummy is an empty well. This particular step is of no new knowledge to anyone, yet most of us ignore this. However, I can guarantee you that drinking plenty of water whenever and wherever can bring about results in a month only. It not only refreshes your mind and body but also helps cleanse your body.
- Sleep.Again, not something that you don’t know but being university students with 24/7 access to Wi-Fi, we all know that our sleeping patterns are ruined. Sleeping is necessary, and I’m not going to elaborate on that. Just remember that Sleeping Beauty was beautiful because she had a good sleep!
- Stretch.Have you seen a giraffe stretch its neck to eat from the trees? Do giraffes have long, flexible necks?
Did you get my point?Stretching or yoga is supposed to be the most relaxing form of working out and has proven effective from ancient times. The stretches we do in karate classes are also very helpful and highly recommended.
That will be all for this first update in physical fitness from me. I challenge you to do the following yoga exercises at least once a day for a month and to observe the aforementioned tips as well.
Until the next post, I hope you all will think of my disappointed face every time you take the lift, hog on something, and spend all night doing anything but sleeping.
