The Night of Poetry

Performing on stage in front of the crowd is never easy for anyone, but AUW speak up club has come up with a unique program which enhances the confidence in every woman. The spoken word poetry night is different from any other program held in the university. It is not about dancing or singing, but about presenting poetry of the presenter’s choice in any way they choose. The president of the club, Mame Diarra Bousso M Ndaiye, said that “the purpose of the Spoken Word Poetry Night is to give students a platform to express themselves in the form of art. It encourages everyone, regardless of their experience to participate and voice their passion regarding any topic they choose.” She also said that she was pleased with the dedication of the performers in bringing their pieces to life by fighting with obstacles like lack of time, confidence and experience. She said they were quite worried, but everyone delivered it very well on the assigned day, which made them proud seeing how everyone has put their effort and showed a lot of improvement. She also mentioned that such activities depend on those who chose to succeed and she was sure that the students will perform well in the coming years. Roshani Raut was one of the participants and she expressed gratitude to the club for organising such activities. Roshani said “After participating in the program. I have built my self confidence and ability to express my hidden emotions and express them without any fear and hesitation. This is a very important thing I learned, that if we are confident enough, then our voices are strong enough to be heard.” By seeing her and other participants, we become assured that women are powerful and can even take over the world if given a chance. As for Roshani, her interest in poetry encouraged her to take part in the event, as she believes that poetry expresses feelings and emotions, and also it is a good way to deliver messages to the people. Bousso encourages every girl to take part in the club’s activities, as she believes it is truly satisfactory to start preparing a performance and see yourself gaining confidence with it. It is a privilege to see how one woman supports another to shine. Speak up club is offering a platform to the young minds to learn and grow, so that they can be future leaders.
